Canteen Duties and Roster
After many, many years of service, our softball division have stepped away from operating our canteen on Saturday mornings for a well-earned retirement. We have been blessed to have had Kerry and her merry band running our canteen and providing a wonderful service to the Teeball community.
With softball retiring from canteen duties, we will look back to our community to continue to provide a service for each other. We have been lucky enough to gain the services of a highly-experienced canteen manager, Bev, who will coordinate our canteen each Saturday morning.
Without volunteers, our canteen will not be able to operate. To ensure our canteen runs smoothly, we ask teams to volunteer in the canteen, with the following guidelines in place when organising the volunteer roster:
- Each team will only be asked to provide volunteers once per season; and
- Volunteer time slots will be scheduled to ensure they are not at the same time as fixtured games.
To comply with occupational health and safety regulations, operating a working kitchen also means that the following rules are in place:
- Children under the age of 15 are not permitted in the kitchen at any time;
- All volunteers must have enclosed shoes to avoid injury;
- If there are not enough volunteers to cover a shift, the canteen will close.
The Cats Canteen menu has been set up to maximise the options available for the community, while minimising the amount of work involved to run effectively. There are four types of volunteer roles, which can be selected in advance by your team when you are rostered on.
- Sausage Sizzle: Using the hotplate in the canteen to cook sausages for our hot dogs.
- Bacon: Using a separate hotplate in the canteen to cook bacon for our bacon and egg burgers.
- Coffee and Eggs: Managing our commercial coffee machine (which is very, very easy to run), and managing eggs on demand for our bacon and egg burgers.
- Prep and Clean: Ensuring cooks have stock, and wiping down or cleaning utensils.
All of these roles are overseen by Bev, our canteen manager, who will also be running the shop front and payments.
Teams are asked to provide four volunteers for the one-off time slot for the year. Where two teams are listed for the same time slot, each team will need to provide two volunteers - the team listed first provides volunteers for (1) and (2), and the team listed second provides volunteers for (3) and (4).
